Recommended Anti-Virus Software
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 @ 9:12 pm - Tim Miller

On my home computer I use Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 for my anti-virus software.  Anti-virus is a must have for any computer that is running on the internet, or a network somehow connected to the internet.  If you do not have anti-virus you should expect some type of virus problem in the near future.  Some people look at it as a big investment, and it is.  For 3 years of Trend Micro it costs approximately $130.  If you consider the costs of having viruses removed at some computer repair places it is well worth it to put it in as preventive maintenance instead of paying the money afterwards and still needing the software.  The nice thing about Trend Micro is that it is easy to use, also includes spyware removal, and is used by lots of large companies and well proven.   I have tried a lot of different ones out there and Trend Micro works the best for me. www.trendmicro.com

Proprietary System Issues (HP, DELL, Compaq, etc.)
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 @ 9:01 pm - Tim Miller

I have seen lots of issues with proprietary systems running Windows XP Mediacenter edition.  My thoughts are, don’t buy any of these systems and if you have one and start having issues it may be time to upgrade already!  They are fixable, but usually at a high price with parts from the manufacturer.  The problem is not only with Mediacenter edition though.  There are many software packages installed on these computers that cause conflicts with hardware and other software that may be installed at a later time.
